Cloud implementations amongst major providers such as Amazon Web Services, Azure and Google Cloud Platform are a growing area for Ed-Fi technology adoption. Cloud providers offer best-of-breed technology services while allowing implementers to make decisions to best serve architecture and operational requirements. As more Ed-Fi implementations occur on cloud platforms, API performance is a related topic that draws concern for data in and data out operations at scale. Please join this discussion on active topics in cloud implementations using three major cloud providers and how to better utilize these services for scalable, secure and scale performing implementations for Ed-Fi adopters.

These broad session notes attempt to capture the spirit of the discussion and should not be interpreted as a transcript. Although Ed-Fi Alliance staff were involved in capturing these observations, the notes below should not be construed as official, complete, or 100% accurate.

Presenters shared their cloud service plans - configurations and costs, AZ and WI shared some valuable insights/lessons learnt, e.g. there might be settings outside the source code that may need tuning such as connection pool size, getting timeouts aligned between app gateway and application service.

  • Test performance early and often!

Lessons Learned:

  • Starting cloud migration 4 months prior to production is not a good idea.
  • Embedded cloud architect is important.
  • WI has done 25 times load testing.  So a solid load testing is needed.
  • Not recommended to have too many variables like upgrading to newer EdFi version and cloud migration.
