10:30 AM - 11:45 AM
This is a discussion around the tools needed for a data engineer to be successful at the district level to collect data from all their SIS, Assessment, LMS, and other education systems and leverage that data to improve student outcomes.
These broad session notes attempt to capture the spirit of the discussion and should not be interpreted as a transcript. Although Ed-Fi Alliance staff were involved in capturing these observations, the notes below should not be construed as official, complete, or 100% accurate.
The session walked through the materials currently available via the K12 analytics engineer learning journey and welcomed community feedback that would improve them. Session participants provided great insights and recommendations including expanding Ed-Fi's certification and badge offerings to also badge LEA personnel that have completed certain milestones of an Ed-Fi implementation. Marcos will be incorporating the feedback into future versions of the learning journey and accompanying resources.
Here are the main takeaways for the session on how to train an analytics engineer that every district needs:
- There is great content in his github repo to support you
- Here is some help on a self guided path:
- ELT instead of ETL.
- Column databases for the win
- DVT and dagster can help.
