1. Interchange Domains

1.1.  AssessmentFamily

The AssessmentFamily domain is not used in this example.

1.2.  Assessment

This entity represents a tool, instrument, process or exhibition composed of a systematic sampling of behavior for measuring a student’s competence, knowledge, skills or behavior. An assessment can be used to measure differences in individuals or groups and changes in performance from one occasion to the next.

1.2.1.  XML Example:

<Assessment id="MAPLanguage212NE20092009-8">
	<AssessmentTitle>MAP: Language 2-12 NE 2009 2009 Fall 2013-2014</AssessmentTitle>
    	<AssessmentIdentificationCode IdentificationSystem="District">
    		<ID>MAPLanguage212NE20092009-8</ID>

1.2.3.      Attributes/Elements Explained:

1.2.3.1.  Assessment id

The Assessment id attribute is populated with the Assessment Reference, which is derived from the NWEA TestName, a dash (-) for a separator, and the Grade. The TestName is stripped of all whitespace and special characters. For example, the Assessment Reference MAPLanguage212NE2009-8 is a result of:

NWEA Input

Value

TestName

MAP: Language 2-12 NE 2009

TestName (Stripped)

MAPLanguage212NE2009

Separator

-

Grade

8

1.2.3.2.  AssessmentTitle

Because the AssessmentTitle element is part of the primary key for an Assessment, it is a combination of the NWEA TestName and TermName. The AssessmentTitle MAP: Language 2-12 NE 2009 Fall 2013-2014 is a result of:

NWEA Input

Value

TestName

MAP: Language 2-12 NE 2009

TermName

Fall 2013-2014

1.2.3.3.  IdentificationSystem

The IdentificationSystem attribute for NWEA is “District”.

1.2.3.4.  AssessmentIdentificationCode ID

The AssessmentIdentificationCode ID element is populated with the Assessment Reference. See the Assessment id attribute (2.2.3.1) above.

1.2.3.5.  AssessmentCategory

The AssessmentCategory element for NWEA is “Benchmark test”.

1.2.3.6.  AcademicSubject namespace

The namespace attribute for AcademicSubject is:

http://www.ed-fi.org/Descriptor/AcademicSubjectDescriptor.xml

1.2.3.7.  AcademicSubject CodeValue

The AcademicSubject CodeValue element is based on the NWEA Discipline input. In this example, “Language” translates to the Ed-Fi academic subject “English Language Arts,” which has a CodeValue of “01” (See 4.3. Appendix C for a complete list of academic subjects).

1.2.3.8.  GradeLevelAssessed namespace

The namespace attribute for AcademicSubject is:

http://www.ed-fi.org/Descriptor/GradeLevelDescriptor.xml

1.2.3.9.  GradeLevelAssessed CodeValue

The GradeLevelAssessed CodeValue element is based on the NWEA Discipline input. In this example, “8” translates to the Ed-Fi academic grade “Eighth grade,” which has a CodeValue of “03”.

1.2.3.10.           Version

The AssessmentVersion element is populated with the year in which the student took the assessment, or the NWEA TestStartDate input.
