This session will provide details on work-to-date into Meadowlark and open a discussion on how this technology and model may be used in the future for scalable, secure Ed-Fi implementations. |

Project Meadowlark and cloud architecture was met with a great deal of excitement. The audience was filled with people who were most interested in seeing what a next generation architecture for the ODS/API could look like. Here were a few discussion points:
- Agreement on:
- needing a more modular platform as envisioned with Meadowlark;
- data streams / events open up many new possibilities
- eventual consistency in the datastore is acceptable.
- Points of concern:
- relaxing foreign keys sounds useful, until everyone starts relaxing foreign keys and stops fixing data problems in the upstream systems.
- Can a document database such as MongoDB handle this type of volume?
- How much will something like this cost?
- Do we know anything yet about performance tuning?
- Suggestions:
- convene a SIG or work group to help this take shape and to recruit participants who can help with code and/or testing.
- Ensure that we’re addressing important questions early, addressing field needs such as what year-specific systems would look like and how to handle start of a new school year.
