This session will discuss and demonstration how to visualize level 2 validations to improve data quality.

Note

These broad session notes attempt to capture the spirit of the discussion and should not be interpreted as a transcript. Although Ed-Fi Alliance staff were involved in capturing these observations, the notes below should not be construed as official, complete, or 100% accurate.

Daniel Hornsby and Sherod Keen, of the North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC), lead the session by discussing data quality workflows within the member Florida districts.  The quality workflows were used for various purposes ranging from required state and federal reporting to analytics, visioning and decision support.  They provided a close look into the details of their data quality operation, driven by the Ed-Fi Data Checker, an open source application listed within the Ed-Fi Exchange.  NEFEC uses Data Checker to populate validation reports with Microsoft’s PowerBI, which allows districts to see various views of level 2 errors for review and correction.  The Data Checker and its reports are updated every 5 minutes, which provides member districts an efficient response time for data updates as districts correct errors found within the reports.
